15 people homeless after fire – NationNews Barbados – nationnews.com
Crystal Boyce, 31, her four children and father were among 15 people left homeless after a fire ripped through three homes this morning.
The blaze, which started just after 10 a.m., destroyed two homes and severely damaged another two-story home in President Kennedy Drive, St Michael. Residents of the three houses are related and only the two-story building, housing seven people, was insured.
Boyce said she was cooking when she realized part of the house was on fire. She ran to drag her four-year-old son from the bedroom and sounded the alarm. Nothing was saved but she was glad they escaped with their lives.
“I had to remove it before I started to put out the fire. When I started to put out the fire now, I couldn’t put out the fire and it started pinning the blinds and everything and everything started to come on, ”she said.
The house was not insured and her father had just bought new furniture.
Three tenders with 21 firefighters responded, but angry residents said it was difficult to locate the hydrants, wasting precious time. (AC)
