BAN vs SL: Shakib Al Hasan returns as Bangladesh name group for first two ODI vs Sri Lanka
Former skipper Shakib Al Hasan returned to the fold while Najmul Hossain Shanto missed the bus as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday named a squad of 15 for the next round against Sri Lanka, starting May 23 . two first ODIs which will be played on Sunday (May 23) and May 25, respectively. Naim Sheikh, Taijul Islam, Shohidul Islam and Aminul Islam Biplob have been named pending players by BCB. “Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announce squad for first and second ODI against Sri Lanka,” BCB said in a statement.
Bangladesh Squad: Tamim Iqbal (captain), Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mohammad Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Mosaddek Hossain, Islam.
The Sri Lankan side under Kusal Perera arrived in Dhaka on Sunday for the ODI three-game series against Bangladesh. The team has now completed the three-day quarantine and will begin training on Friday.
The three-game series that is part of the ODI Super League will end on May 28 and take place in a bio-bubble stretching between the team’s hotel and the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
After the conclusion of the ODI series on May 28, the Sri Lankan team will depart the next day. This will be Bangladesh’s third ODI series as part of the ICC World Cup qualifying campaign. They are currently in sixth place after beating the West Indies 3-0 at home in January.
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh recently played a two-game test series, which was won by the former. Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 209 points in the second test, while the first ended in a draw.
