Chimpanzee needs a name – Maple Ridge News
Have you ever thought of naming a chimpanzee?
How about one that stands about six feet tall and can often be found lying around – literally and figuratively – in downtown Maple Ridge.
The Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association (DMRBIA) has adopted a furry, friendly primate as its mascot, and in recent weeks he has been seen around downtown, posing for photos and visiting shoppers.
Well, this oversized chimpanzee needs a name, and time is running out to contribute ideas and potentially win, said Flori Chaykowski, executive director of DMRBIA.
The association is giving away a $50 gift card to downtown Maple Ridge to one lucky participant.
“We need help,” Chaykowski said.
“He’s looking for a new name,” she added, without disclosing her old name.
“He’s already a City favourite, but is looking to switch brands.”
The naming contest ends on Sunday, July 17, so people are encouraged to visit and comment on the association’s Facebook page to enter.
