The NSW Education Department has been investigating possible misconduct by staff at Katoomba High School, but the 15-month investigation is still ongoing and authorities have declined to explain why it is taking so long or when it might be over . The parent who made the original complaint has now approached the NSW Ombudsman over the delay. Gazette inquiries to the Department and Education Minister Sarah Mitchell were answered “without comment” as the investigation is ongoing. The original complaint was filed with the department in November 2020. The department confirmed that the Professional and Ethical Standards Section had opened an investigation to determine whether a member of school staff had engaged in misconduct. The lead investigator said such investigations take on average between six and nine months, although that timeframe could be pushed back if other agencies, such as the police, are also involved.
