Man City fans name starting lineup they want to see against Leicester
Manchester City will go in search of a third consecutive Premier League victory when they travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City this afternoon.
After losing 1-0 to Tottenham on the opening day of the campaign, City responded in the best possible way, registering back-to-back 5-0 home wins against Norwich City and Arsenal.
Both City performances exuded class and quality, with Pep Guardiola’s side proving they could do just fine without replacing Sergio Aguero.
However, today’s trip to Leicester will likely be a much bigger task as the Foxes have already beaten City once this season and taken six points in their first three Premier League outings.
With the international break now over, City are hoping to welcome star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne again. But do City fans expect to see him again in the starting XI this afternoon? Plus, who else do they expect to be part of the starting lineup?
Goalkeeper – Scott Carson
With City fans voting in the past 24 hours or so in hopes that Ederson would miss, they all expected Carson to line up the goals this afternoon.
However, late last night it was confirmed that all Brazilian Premier League players will be allowed to play this weekend, meaning Guardiola is certain to line up his first pick between the sticks.
Defense – Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo
City supporters are hoping to see the exact same defender who started Arsenal’s 5-0 pounding a fortnight ago, with the same rearguard also keeping a clean sheet against Norwich.
Walker was taken out at half-time against Arsenal and replaced by Oleksandr Zinchenko, meaning Cancelo moved to right-back from left-back for the second half.
However, Walker, who has just played twice for England during the international break, is expected to retain his place in the squad at right-back. If it’s the same quartet again, that means John Stones will have to settle for a place on the bench again.
Midfielder – Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva
Copy and paste, again.
City supporters are hoping Guardiola names the exact same midfielder against Leicester that sparked the victories against Norwich and Arsenal, meaning there won’t be any comeback from the start for De Bruyne.
Rodri and Gundogan have both made their mark on the scoresheet, meaning they will expect to hold onto their positions in the squad.
Attack – Riyad Mahrez, Ferran Torres, Jack Grealish
Similar to the situation with goalkeepers, City supporters were voting for their preferred starting lineup with the idea that Gabriel Jesus would not be available for selection.
With that in mind, City fans were hoping to see a change in the attack, but that may now be obsolete due to Jesus’ availability. They had voted to see Mahrez line up on the right against his former club, joining Torres and Grealish, who were both excellent against Arsenal, early in the game.
Both Torres and Grealish have had good starts to the season, with the latter ready to continue operating in the middle and leading the attacking line.
