Mary Patricia “Patsy” Monger met her Heavenly Family on May 16, 2021, following a brief illness.
She was born to Mary Elizabeth (Vasche) and Elmer Emery “Smiley” Ray on March 13, 1937, and married her high school sweetheart, Joe Earl Monger, in February 1959. After 55 years of marriage, he predeceased her in death on October 25, 2013.
She was the granddaughter of Minnie (Trabucco) Roller of Bear Valley, who married and moved to Tulare, California.
In her early years, Patsy grew up on her grandparents’ ranch in Alpaugh, California, where her love of animals was nurtured. From an early age, she had the amazing ability to heal any injured or stray animal back to perfect health.
After graduating from Tulare Union High School, Patsy went to work for the city of Tulare as a social worker and then a housemaid, before taking up her post as secretary to the general manager.
After moving to Spring Lake, Michigan, in 2017, Patsy once again took over the mantle of foster animals. Her patio always had a menagerie of squirrels, birds and chipmunks, which she and her kitten fed and observed daily. When she opened her blinds in the morning, her audience was waiting for her meal. She particularly liked the brilliance of the cardinals.
Patsy was known and loved by all in her retirement community in Lloyds Bayou. She generally assumed responsibility for the “welcome cart”. She always introduced herself to newcomers and rarely let them sit alone. She had the ability to remember everyone’s names and their stories. She particularly enjoyed “dining with the girls” and her shopping trips.
Patsy will be missed by her two children, Steven (Robin) Monger and Christy Thompson; three grandchildren, Levi (Shawna) Thompson, Cheyene (Samuel) Ortega and Bugsy (Garett) Viken; four great-grandchildren, Tawnie Rose and Jax Thompson and Caspian Miranda and Bear Immanuel Ortega; sister-in-law, Barbara Lawrence; special cousins, Sharon Kowlewski and Barbara “Tootie” (Jack) Parker-Darragh; and her kitten, Cupcake.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Patsy was predeceased by her son-in-law, Michael Thompson; and brother-in-law, Johnny Lawrence.
According to his wishes, no service will take place. A private burial took place at the Spring Lake Township Cemetery in Spring Lake, Michigan, next to her beloved husband, Joe.
