Pollard returns as West Indies name squads for Ireland and England series

West Indies Limited Editions captain Kieron Pollard has returned to the squads for the Limited Editions series against Ireland and England.

The Caribbean side will host Ireland for three ODIs and a single T20I ahead of a five-game T20I series against England. The nine matches will take place from January 8 to 30.

Pollard had missed the Pakistan tour after suffering a hamstring injury. He has now recovered from his injury and will be fit to face Ireland and England. In his absence, Nicholas Pooran led the T20I team against Pakistan while Shai Hope was scheduled to lead the ODI team ahead of a postponement due to COVID.

Jason Holder is also back in the ODI and T20I squads while Fabian Allen has also been declared fit to compete in the T20I against England.

There is no recall for versatile Andre Russell. Obed McCoy will not be available as he completes his rehabilitation after a shin injury while Evin Lewis and Anderson Phillip are unavailable due to recent positive COVID tests.

Regarding the selections, head coach Phil Simmons said: “We have tried to maintain the general composition of the Pakistan Tour teams before Christmas, with the return of the captain and some senior players. COVID-19 has also played a role. in the final squad roster The challenges over the next two months will see the young players of both teams not only improving their skills but also maintaining the attitude and desire that we have seen in Pakistan.

“We have to start the year on a high note. And we know Ireland and England have very good teams, so we expect a really big challenge as we look to improve our chances of automatically qualifying for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023 and building up the T20 team for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022.. “
