Professional organizer Anita Birges shares DIY solutions to kill and prevent mold
A professional organizer offered her simple five-ingredient cleaning sprays to eliminate endemic black mold.
Anita Birges, from Sydney, shared a TikTok video showing how she treats her home using non-toxic products after spotting the mushrooms.

She created two different solutions – one with isopropyl alcohol and warm water to “clean” the mold and a second with clove oil, tea tree oil and white vinegar. to make sure she doesn’t come back.
DIY solutions can be used to remove mold from all types of surfaces – including walls, windows, leather lounge, clothing, shoes, books, children’s toys and more.
The founder of Establishment said she suspected her home was going to be the “perfect breeding ground” for mold after spending a weekend there.
“I’m on a mission against mould. I knew closing the house with no air circulation would be the perfect situation for mold to set in,” she said.
“I was right. They’re everywhere.”
Upon returning home, she found black mold on her front door, around a windowsill and all over her roller shutters.
“The mold monster attacked my roller shutters,” she said.
“I found it alongside my roller shutters. I walked in and could see it from the reflection. It’s as if the moisture is sitting on the windowsill and pulling up the blind.
“I have to clean it right away.”
Using an empty spray bottle, she filled half with isopropyl alcohol and the other half with warm water.
“First clean the mold with the solution. Leave for 10 minutes and wipe with a microfiber cloth,” she said.
To make her “mold prevention” solution, she combined 10 drops of clove oil, 10 drops of tea tree oil, and 100 mL of white vinegar in a second spray bottle.
“Spraying this along the blinds will keep mold from coming back,” Anita said.
“Spray and let the solution work, it’s magic. Don’t wipe!
