Super TV CEO alleged killer booked apartment with fake name
A preliminary police report into the alleged murder of Great TV CEO Usifo Ataga showed prime suspect Chidinma Ojukwu used the name ‘Jewel’ to book the apartment for rent on Adebowale Oshin Street, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, where Ataga was killed .
The report also said that several calls made to a phone number that Ojukwu, 21, had booked with failed after Ataga’s body was found in the room on Wednesday, June 16.
Ojukwu, a 300-level mass communication student at the University of Lagos, reportedly went to the service apartment with Ataga for fun.
What started as a romantic encounter, however, turned sour under the influence of drugs, as Ojukwu allegedly stabbed his lover multiple times with a knife.
The young woman, who fled the scene of the crime and withdrew N 380,000 from the victim’s account with her ATM card, was eventually found by police at her father’s home on Akinwunmi Street, Alagomeji , Yaba, Wednesday, June 23.
Chidinma confessed to the crime as she marched through the State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja, attributing her action to the influence of hard drugs and alcohol.
Items recovered from the suspect included a Nigerian passport with number B50010434, a fake driver’s license marked ‘Mary Johnson’ with the suspect’s photograph, an Access Bank account statement, a United Bank for Africa (UBA) debit card. ) ATM bearing his name and a UNILAG identity card.
Meanwhile, a preliminary investigative report into the alleged murder indicated that Ojukwu had checked in at the hotel using a foreign phone number and a pseudonym identified only as Jewel.
She said she invited the late Ataga to the apartment on Tuesday, June 15, when the man was found dead around 1 p.m. the next day by a worker who wanted to clean the room.
The incident was reportedly reported to the police by the operator of the establishment, Ms. Nkechi Mogbo.
The report said in part: “Mogbo reported that around 3pm on June 16, 2021, she received a call from her security guard on Adebowale Oshin Street, Lekki Phase I where she has an apartment being used as a short stay apartment. She further stated that the security man informed her that a jewel with a foreign phone number who had rented the apartment invited an Usifo Ataga to the apartment yesterday (June 15) and that around 13 hours on June 16, when the cleaner wanted to clean the room, he discovered that the door had been broken.
“When she (the housekeeper) glanced around the room, she discovered that said Ataga was lying in a pool of blood. All calls made to said Bijou to return to the apartment turned out to be aborted.
