Death is all around you in The career. Of course, as the saying goes: “A defendant is a defendant”. There are scenes you can watch, detailing what you can expect when making certain choices. Here is our guide to tarot cards for The career to help you understand premonitions and visions, and when they will occur in the countryside.

The career Tarot Card Guide – Premonitions and Visions

To look at the tarot visions in The career, you will need to complete a chapter to have a conversation with Eliza. She then offers to help you by revealing a possible future to you thanks to her crystal ball.

If you only found one card in a chapter, no worries because that’s the only option. However, if you have found two or more, you will have to make a choice. The premonition or vision of this card can be reviewed using the menu. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the ones you didn’t choose even if you managed to complete the game. In a way, it’s different from what you experienced in dark pictures games where all premonitions can be freely reviewed/replayed.

To note: If you just want to watch other scenes or make different choices, you can create a save after Eliza tells you to choose a card to reveal. When you load this save you will be right at the part where you have to make a choice.

Prologue: The Fool

• What it shows: Jacob sabotages the van, causing the engine to catch fire.
• When It Happens: Chapter 1
• How To: After talking with Kaitlyn, you can break the fuel line as Jacob.
• What Happens Next: Later in the chapter, Jacob tries to pour water on the engine, but Ryan can interrupt this action. Chris Hackett then leaves and tells the kids to stay inside the lodge. To be frank, I don’t know if this tarot card in The career leads to major problems or character deaths down the line.

Chapter 1: Temperance

• What it shows: Emma catches fireworks.
• When It Happens: Chapter 2
• How To: Go to the back of the storage room and have Jacob open it. Check the items in the room for a code. Once back at the counter, Emma will enter the code and grab the firework.
• What happens next: Emma will light the fireworks during the bonfire. Much later (if she manages to return to this location), you can collect leftover fireworks. She can use them against enemies during QTEs.

Chapter 2: Hangman

• What it shows: Jacob hanging from a tree because of a trap.
• When Does This Happen: Chapter 3
• How to do this: This happens automatically as long as you have control of Jacob.
• What happens next: You can avoid a hostile confrontation with the hunter, causing it to let go of you. He then goes to rub a strange liquid on Jacob’s face.

Chapter 3: The Tower

• What it shows: Emma attempting to catch a zip line and falling to her death.
• When does this happen: Chapter 4
• How To: If Emma survives her first encounter with the creature, her next scene will take place at the top of the tower. You will need to coil the cable and pass the QTEs to escape. If Emma fails a QTE while jumping, she will die.
• What happens next: just Emma’s survival or death.

Chapter 3: The Star

• What it shows: Emma blinds a creature with her phone’s camera flash.
• When does this happen: Chapter 4
• How to do this: This will be Emma’s first encounter with the creature when she reaches the tree house. However, I don’t know how it triggers. If she opens the hatch, she will be automatically killed. If she searches the bags, she’ll get the bear spray and Taser, which don’t provide the option to use the camera flash.
• What Happens Next: Emma’s survival means you’ll have the option to save her again (or not) as depicted in The Tower card.

Chapter 4: The Magician

• What it shows: Ryan cutting off Dylan’s arm.
• When does this happen: Chapter 5
• How to: Dylan will use the PA system to distract the creature, but his arm will be bitten off. Ryan then has the option of amputating it using a shotgun or a chainsaw. Use the chainsaw for “groovy” action.
• What happens next: Cutting Dylan’s arm prevents infection.

Chapter 4: Strength

• What it shows: Nick’s infection makes him stronger, allowing him to choke Bobby and dump him like a rag doll.
• When does this happen: Chapter 5
• How To: I haven’t actually seen this instance, but I believe it’s at the start of Chapter 5. When Abby, Nick, and Kaitlyn hear an intruder, you can choose to run or hide. If you run and Bobby spots you, Nick can come to the rescue.
• What Happens Next: For now, I don’t know if this will affect how Bobby acts later in the game.

Chapter 5: The Devil

• What it shows: Nick’s infection sets in, forcing him to behead Abigail.
• When does this happen: Chapter 6
• How To: Nick will turn into a werewolf in the pool house. If Abby shoots him with the shotgun, he’ll run away. If Abby doesn’t shoot her, she’ll die.
• What happens next: Abby’s survival or death.

Chapter 5: The Hermit

• What it shows: Jacob has his leg caught in a bear trap. He tries to escape but comes across another, completely crushing his head.
• When does this happen: Chapter 6
• How to: Pass the QTEs when Jacob is chased by the creature. He will then find himself in an open area with many bear traps. There is an option to break free, and failing that leads to the death of Jacob. The only difference is that I didn’t see the part where Jedediah, the old man, sees Jacob’s corpse. Instead, the camera just zooms out.
• What happens next: no matter what, if Jacob is alive, he will be captured by the hunters.

Chapter 6: Justice

• What it shows: Laura shoots the cop, Travis, in the stomach.
• When does this happen: Chapter 7
• How To: Towards the end of this flashback chapter, Laura has a chance to dash at Travis’ gun. If you fail the QTEs, Laura will accidentally shoot Travis.
• What Happens Next: Travis and Laura have the ability to help each other much later in the game, so you might want to side with him for a particular achievement.

Chapter 6: The Moon

• What it shows: Laura stabs Travis with the tranquilizer syringe.
• When does this happen: Chapter 7
• How to: When you are able to explore the police station, Laura can go to the furthest room on the second floor. She will then find a syringe in the cupboard.
• What happens next: I don’t know how the particular scene is triggered. Guess it’s locked when Travis tries to search Laura afterwards. If Laura complies or does nothing, Travis will automatically find the syringe and take it away.

Chapter 7: The World

• What it shows: Ryan falls into a pit as Laura watches.
• When does this happen: Chapter 8
• How To: There is a section in this chapter where Laura and Ryan argue outside the mansion. This tarot card in The career only shows Ryan falling, but the actual scene has them both diving.
• What happens next: This is the continuation of the chapter.

Chapter 7: The Chariot

• What it shows: Dylan and Kaitlyn open the van door.
• When does this happen: Chapter 8
• How to: This will happen automatically in the middle of the chapter.
• What happens next: They find Emma inside the van. I don’t know what would happen if she died already before.

Chapter 8: The lovers

• What it shows: Laura bites Ryan’s arm.
• When does this happen: Chapter 9
• How To: Ryan lost a lot of blood after being stabbed by Bobby. As a last option, Laura offers to infect him with a bite.
• What Happens Next: This gives Ryan mild regenerative powers, preventing him from bleeding to death.

Chapter 8: The Wheel of Fortune

• What it shows: A werewolf killing Bobby.
• When does this happen: Chapter 9
• How to do this: This seems to happen automatically towards the end of Chapter 9. Again, a previous prompt while controlling Ryan allows you to stab Bobby. You are informed that Bobby was “too weak to defend himself” from the werewolf aggressor.
• What Happens Next: Be sure to shoot this creature when you get the chance.

Chapter 8: The Empress

• What it shows: A werewolf killing Constance.
• When does this happen: Chapter 9
• How To: This will happen automatically near the end of Chapter 9 if Constance is still alive. There is an opportunity to kill her a bit earlier during the button mash sequence when you control Laura.
• What Happens Next: Be sure to shoot this creature when you get the chance.

Chapter 8: The Emperor

• What it shows: A werewolf killing Jedediah.
• When does this happen: Chapter 9
• How to do this: This seems to happen automatically towards the end of Chapter 9 if Jedediah is still alive. There’s an opportunity to kill him a bit earlier while you’re controlling Laura.
• What Happens Next: Be sure to shoot this creature when you get the chance.

Chapter 9: Death, Sun and Judgment

• What it shows: Unfortunately, I’m not sure yet. It’s because I got The Hierophant card. Because of this, Eliza no longer wanted to read the remaining tarot cards in The career.

Chapter 9: The Hierophant

• What it shows: This is a special tarot card in The careerand it is discussed in detail in a separate guide.

Chapter 10: The High Priestess

• What it shows: I don’t think there’s an extra cutscene here, because it’s already the last chapter. Your last conversation with Eliza no longer has anything to do with visions.
