The community will choose the name and uniform of the new school in Throsby
I am pleased to announce that the community can choose their preference for the name and uniform of the new Kindergarten to Grade 6 school in Throsby which will open to students in 2022.
Schools are the center of our local communities, which is why we invite children, families, teachers, community organizations and the entire Canberra community to vote for their preferred name and uniform option for the new school in Canberra. You can do this by visiting the YourSay Conversations website.
The name of the new school will be selected from a shortlist of distinguished Australians whose contributions relate to the theme of the suburb of Throsby. These names were shortlisted by the Place Names Committee after consultation with the Office of the Surveyor General and Land Information and the families of the applicants. These Australians are:
- Clifford ‘Possum’ Tjapaltjarri
- Jean Calaby
- Shirley jeffrey
- Charles Throsby
The school uniform will be chosen from four design concepts based on the region’s natural habitat.
Every ACT public school is a great school, and this $ 43 million P to 6 school will accommodate 132 preschool students and 450 kindergarten to grade 6 students with space available for future student growth, ensuring that every youngster can attend an excellent public school near his home. . It will also be ACT’s third zero-emission school, building on this government’s commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2045.
The school’s founding director, Annamaria Zuffo, has been appointed and looks forward to establishing a collaborative learning place where students, staff and the community can build a vision for the future and where all students. are welcomed and succeed.
Like all ACT public schools, the new school in Throsby will offer the Australian curriculum, with specific facilities to enrich learning in the arts, music and sciences, technology, engineering, the arts and Mathematics (STEAM), ensuring that it equips students for the best possible future.
In addition to meeting the educational needs of our youth, schools are also important centers for the local community and provide facilities for many local clubs and groups. The new school in Throsby will be the first community facility in the area and will feature a large community hall and kitchenette, a multi-purpose double gym, athletic fields and changing rooms, as well as an outdoor grass sports field and multipurpose hard outdoor courts. for everyone to benefit.
This is another example of the ACT government’s investment in our schools and community infrastructure.
I can’t wait for Canberra’s 90th Public School to open for the 2022 school year.
